Thermopolis and Fried Pickles

7-17-2016

DAY 29

Papa left on a plane early in the morning which means it is just the four of us for the rest of the trip, which is only about one more week. We're all starting to get a little homesick, so it's probably good that we are starting our trek back east.

Our destination for today was Thermopolis, WY. The town is home to the largest mineral hot springs in the world and has a well known dinosaur center. It is a little off the beaten path compared to the national parks which was kind of nice. The drive was through some beautiful country including the Wind River Canyon. When we got to Thermopolis, we went to Star Plunge which has three water slides and several pools that are all fed by the hot springs. The water slides were super fun and a welcome change of pace.

After Star Plunge, we went and got some yummy ice cream, but saw fried pickles on the menu, so had to try them. Wow, they were good! Then, we checked out the hot springs and decided to swim in the Wind River near them. The current was pretty strong, so we floated down the river several times. We had a ball. Since the river was a little chilly, we zipped back to Star Plunge to warm up and some more sliding. Once we had our fill, we called it a day.

  1. How fun, it's very crazy how the water can be so warm coming out of the ground! Can you imagine what the native Americans must have thought.
