DAY 13
Today we tried our hand at canyoneering. I didn't know what to expect, but we loved it! We did two different canyons today - Dragonfly and Tierdrop. Both are in Arches National Park. It was crazy to be on in Arches (super popular national park) and not see a sole while.
Dragonfly is a slot canyon with three rappels (the longest was 120 feet) and a narrows (that we could barely squeeze through). There were some fun potholes that we got to cannonball into in the beginning. We got a little nervous because it was raining a little, but Papa assured us that we didn't have to worry about a flash flood in this canyon. Once we got into the bottom of the canyon, it was a lush paradise which was crazy to find because we were in a desert. As we were hiking out, little waterfalls were forming along the canyon walls - super cool. James, Mama and I all took a little shower in one. It might be the only way to get James to take a shower. Mama and I hiked back to get the car so that everyone else didn't have to go as far.
In the afternoon, we did Tierdrop, which is a dry canyon and totally different than Dragonfly. On the ascent, there were rumbles of thunder, so we were a little nervous again, but the storm skirted around us. There were three repels for this canyon as well and the last one was a crazy 130 ft overhanging wall! Figuring out setting up the ropes took a little while, but we learned a lot from this canyon. The views from the top and 2nd benches were great. The final repel was incredible! Even though we were in crowded Arches for both canyons, we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and had the place to ourselves all day.
Again, great photos and very fun adventures. That's certainly a good way to get a shower. Maybe pop will have to run a hose up to the treehouse and create a waterfall from the deck.
