DAY 11
It was another early to rise and late to bed day. Since we are in the desert and it has been wicked hot, we woke up at 5am in order to start the Devil's Garden hike in Arches National Park. It is a hike that takes you to a bunch of really cool arches. We ended up hiking about 8.5 miles because we went all the way to Dark Angel. We all had fun making our own little cairns in the holes in the sandstone walls. When we arrived back at the trail head, there were only a few other cars, but by the time we got back there were over 130! There were so many people!
It was crazy hot, so we only ended up checking out a few more things in the park before we headed back to the campground to rest during the heat of the day. Us kids were so tired and felt like we were going to melt, so we didn't even want to get out of the car. We summoned enough energy to make it out to the viewpoint for delicate arch though. I was so tired, I slept the whole way back.
In the evening, we drove out to Canyonlands and checked out Island in the Sky and hiked Grand View Trail. On the way out, we checked out Mesa Arch - we loved this arch because there was a view behind it. The sunset from Grand View Point was gorgeous and made the red pop on the rocks. We didn't even mind hiking out and back. However, we got back around 10pm which made for a long day for this crew. Sleep came easily...
Maya, James and I all agreed that landscape arch (below) was our favorite arch since even delicate arch didn't look nearly as fragile. All of the arches were beautiful and unique in their own ways, and everyone was happy with what they'd seen by the end of the day. We also saw many bunnies, lizards and birds, so that was fun as well. I was even cool to see the tiny ants carrying huge seeds and plants.

Isn't it amazing that even though it's so late it's still light out. It's tough to get up early, but it certainly pays off to get some hikes in before it gets too hot.
